The Texas Bankers Association recently posted a job opening for the position of commissioner at the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending, which is overseen by the Finance Commission of Texas.
Duties include accountability for the department’s performance, the examination and monitoring of state-chartered thrifts, licensing and examination of mortgage firms doing business in Texas, the registration of mortgage bankers and third party servicers in Texas, response to consumer complaints regarding regulated entities and participation in regional and national meetings with federal regulators.
Other responsibilities include the appointment of supervisory agents in state-chartered thrift institutions, the review and approval of interstate acquisitions of and by thrift institutions, the coordination of supervisory actions with regulators and participation in interstate regulatory organizations.
Minimum requirements for the position include at least five years of experience in the executive management or regulatory supervision of a savings entity within the past 10 years, an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year university or comparable experience and advanced degrees or licenses in business, banking, accounting, finance or law.
