The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association announced earlier this month that it appointed Andy Blocker, formerly the managing director of U.S. federal affairs at UBS, as its executive vice president of public policy and advocacy.
Blocker will take over responsibility for SIFMA’s governmental affairs and advocacy initiatives beginning in January.
“Andy has substantial experience in both the public and private sectors and he clearly understands the intricacies and importance of the financial markets,” SIFMA President and CEO Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr. said. “Andy is an outstanding addition to SIFMA and we welcome him to the team.”
Blocker represented UBS on a number of issues during his time at the company. He also served as a resource to inform clients on policy actions in Washington and how they might impact investment decisions.
Before joining UBS, Blocker was the vice president of government relations at the New York Stock Exchange, where he oversaw governance, international economic relations and tax issues. He represented American Airlines in more than 20 international route negotiations between the U.S. and foreign governments.
Blocker holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a master’s degree from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
