J. Mark McWatters was sworn in earlier this week as a board member of the National Credit Union Administration, replacing outgoing member Michael Fryzel during a ceremony in Dallas.
McWatters joins NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz and Vice Chairman Rick Metsger on the three-person board. His term is set to expire in August 2019.
“It is my distinct honor and privilege to join the NCUA Board,” McWatters said. “As a board member, I look forward to addressing the regulatory and administrative law challenges facing the credit union system as it continues to expand and evolve as a critical and fundamental component of the financial services industry.”
McWatters—nominated by President Obama—served as the assistant dean for graduate programs at Southern Methodist University’s School of Law. He also served as a member of the Troubled Asset Relief Program’s (TARP) congressional oversight committee, before which he practiced as a tax and M&A attorney.
He holds a juris doctorate from the University of Texas, a master’s degree from Columbia University and a degree in taxation from New York University’s School of Law.
