PT Bank Central Asia and Planet Payment announced last month the launch of PP’s Pay in Your Currency service for bank customers and merchants in Indonesia.
Pay in Your Currency allows eligible customers to pay in their home currency at the point of sale. Customers are then given a receipt, which shows the transaction amount in Indonesian rupiah and their home currency, along with the exchange rate and other service details.
The service will help facilitate the payment process for the 8.5 to nine million visitors expected to visit the country, supporting the country’s tourism industry. Travel to Indonesia rose nine percent in 2011 to reach 7.65 million visitors, compared to seven million in 2010.
“Many of our merchants, including those in the hospitality, restaurant and retail sectors, count on international customers for a significant portion of their business,” Santoso, the senior general manager of PT BCA, said. “We believe that Pay in Your Currency is an important addition to our suite of products and will allow our merchants to better serve their international clientele by delivering a more comfortable and convenient shopping experience.”
Additionally, the service will help to reduce processing costs for merchants.
“Planet Payment is excited to partner with BCA to deliver our Pay in Your Currency solution to the dynamic Indonesian market,” PP Chairman and CEO Philip Beck said. “Our goal is to provide solutions that transform credit card processing into a tool to drive sales and improve operational efficiencies and we look forward to working with BCA to rollout Pay in Your Currency to BCA’s merchant portfolio.”
