Nordic banks to launch MasterPass digital wallet

220px-MasterCard_Logo.svgNordea, SEB and Swedbank—three major Nordic banks—announced on Thursday that they will launch MasterPass digital wallets for their customers.

“We are very proud to announce that Nordea, SEB and Swedbank will introduce their own digital wallets using the global MasterPass platform,” Mats Taraldsson, the head of business development in MasterCard’s Nordic and Baltic regions, said. “In partnership with those banks, a safe, simple and smart digital wallet, that can store all card brands, and which is accepted globally, will soon be available for millions of Swedish consumers across all connected devices, while delivering the security and benefits consumers already enjoy today from a genuine MasterCard transaction.”

The technology allows users to make online and in-store purchases without a physical card and without having to enter shipping and card information.

Additionally, Swedish payment provider Paynova will offer MasterPass checkout on merchant websites. The technology is used in Australia, Canada, the U.S. and U.K., and the company plans to expand the service into Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Singapore and Spain.

”We are very proud that MasterCard has selected Paynova as the first payment service provider in the Nordics to launch MasterPass,” Paynova CEO Daniel Ekberger said. “With this, Paynova takes yet another step to increase customer loyalty as well as for faster and easier purchases online.”
