Senate to consider federal agency nominations before August recess

170px-Seal_of_the_United_States_Senate.svgThe Senate announced last week its intent to consider nominations to several federal agencies before Congress goes into recess for the month of August.

Richard Metsger was unanimously confirmed to the National Credit Union Administration Board by the Senate Banking Committee earlier this month, Credit Union Times reports.

Committee Chairman Tim Johnson waived opening statements and called for a voice vote on Metsger’s nomination to the NCUA, as well as Kara Stein and Michael Piwowar’s nominations to the SEC. Mary Jo White was also confirmed as an SEC member, and Jason Furman was confirmed as a member and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors.

The committee also voted to confirm Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) as the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Watt received no support from Republican committee members, however, and his confirmation in the full Senate is uncertain.
