Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) joined a number of other lawmakers on Wednesday in expressing his support for credit unions, pointing to the important role they plan in American communities.
“I will continue to look for ways to reduce regulatory burden and to help credit unions in their mission of serving consumers and small businesses with affordable financial services,” Camp, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said before the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates.
The Cornerstone Credit Union League said 38 lawmakers in Congress have expressed their support for credit unions, with 32 expressing their support specifically for the credit union tax exemption.
House Financial Services Committee member Keith Rothfus recently expressed his support for the credit union tax exemption, saying he would continue to push to keep credit unions “out of the tax column.”
Other lawmakers who have spoken out in support of credit unions include Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, as well as several other Michigan legislators.
