NCUA expresses support for Obama nomination of former Sen. Rick Metsger to its board

resized_NCUA_SEALThe National Credit Union Administration recently expressed support for President Obama’s move to nominate former Oregon State Sen. Rick Metsger to fill a vacant seat on the three-member board.

Metsger, who is currently the president of Parakletos Strategic Public Affairs, served as the Democratic senator of Oregon from 1999 to 2011. Between 1993 and 2001, Metsger served on the board of directors at the Portland Teachers Credit Union, and in 2001, he began serving on Oregon’s Debt Policy Advisory Commission.

Additionally, Metsger served as the Oregon senate president pro tempore from 2009 to 2011, and he also served as chairman of the Oregon senate committee that heard all legislation related to financial institutions. He is also a former board member at Financial Beginnings, a non-profit agency aimed at increasing students’ financial literacy.

“Serving on the NCUA Board is a tremendous honor, and I sincerely congratulate Senator Metsger on his appointment by the Obama Administration,” NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said. “Rick will bring valuable perspectives to the NCUA Board, having served as a volunteer credit union board member as well as a state legislator. I look forward to welcoming Rick as soon as he is seated on the NCUA Board. We will work collaboratively to fulfill NCUA’s mission:  to protect the safety and soundness of America’s federally insured credit unions and their 94 million members.”
