Millennius, an Australian online consumer electronics retailer, recently announced it is the first online retailer in the country to accept Bitcoin as a payment mechanism.
Millennius Founder Pierre Boutros said Bitcoin, a digital currency that enables instant payments over the Internet, will make purchasing online easier for consumers in Australia and across the globe.
“Bitcoin is becoming a far more common payment mechanism for online transactions, with many global online businesses adding the functionality,” Boutros said.
All products available on the Millennius site can be purchased using Bitcoin. Customers are still able to purchase using credit cards and bank transfer payments if they prefer.
Millennius said it also plans to soon offer Litecoin, a similar digital currency. The Litecoin purchase process will require customers to email Mellenius to specify what product is desired.
The company said it believes it will be the first online retailer globally to accept Litecoin payment through its site.
“Millennius is all about creating great products at great prices, and offering the best deal on brand name consumer electronics,” Boutros said. “The addition of Bitcoin and Litecoin as payment options can only help with our ability to offer great deals to a wider customer base.”
