Michigan’s UFCU donates $1,000 to Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids

UFCUUnited Federal Credit Union donated $1,000 last week to Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation, which helps assist and support parents and families with children who are fighting cancer.

NICK provides financial assistance and connects families with support networks. Services provided by the foundation include home cleaning, help with out-of-state travel, private benefit coaching for fundraising and help with hospital stays. NICK’s retail store is located in Schererville, Ind.

Since learning of NICK, UFCU has worked with the foundation to provide support, get employees involved in the organization’s retail store—all proceeds benefit the families served by the NICK Foundation—and to participate in Kids in Capes Walk & Run.

“We strive to give that same hope to newly-diagnosed families in our community,” NICK co-founder Donna Criner said. “With help from compassionate businesses like United Federal Credit Union, we’re also able to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research.”

UFCU employees are also encouraged to volunteer at preferred organizations and charities.

“We’ve all been witness to the ravaging effects of cancer,” UFCU President and CEO Gary Easterling said. “We want to support our employees and the work NICK does, to serve kids with cancer, and ultimately, help find a cure for this terrible disease.”
