MasterCard partners with British Airways to offer multi-currency wallet

220px-MasterCard_Logo.svgMasterCard subsidiary Access Prepaid Worldwide recently announced a partnership with British Airways to offer members the Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport, which will allow members to earn extra points and make multi-currency payments.

The Passport card allows users to load up to seven currencies at a locked-in rate, and when used, the car selects the local currency to ensure the best exchange rate. If the local currency is not already loaded onto the card, funds are used from other currencies. The card can hold the euro, pound, U.S. dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, New Zealand dollar and South African rand.

British Airways Executive Club members receive one Avios point for every pound loaded onto the card. Club members who purchase the Cash Passport and load up to 50 pounds in the first two months will be eligible to enter a prize drawing—a trip for two to Rome.

“We are proud to be working with British Airways to offer their Executive Club customers the convenience to make safe and secure payments in many different countries, using one card,” MasterCard U.K. & Ireland President Marion King said. “The MasterCard, Access and British Airways collaboration through the Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport product demonstrates our commitment to progress within the airline arena. Our subsidiary Access Prepaid Worldwide has been instrumental in the innovation and market-leading solution which will make the Executive Club Multi-currency Cash Passport a huge success.”
