Lidl commissions Wirecard Bank AG to issue gift cards

wirecardLidl Dienstleistung recently commissioned Wirecard Bank AG to issue and process Lidl gift cards of various values, available for purchase or to redeem at more than 3,300 Lidl branches throughout Germany.

The gift cards allow cardholders to shop both online through the Lidl online shop and in brick-and-mortar retail outlets.

“With our e-Money vouchers, we are offering retailers a proven method of enhancing customer loyalty,” Christa Wagner, the executive vice president of consumer goods sales at Wirecard, said. “The flexibility of our system enables us to carry out targeted marketing campaigns for our clients at any time, such as coupon promotions and mobile vouchers.”

Wirecard Bank AG—a licensed German bank—offers development and operation of individual voucher platforms and combines its technical expertise with bank regulatory requirements. The two firms have had a payment processing partnership for Lidl’s online stores since 2008.

Wirecard AG provides outsourcing and white label solutions for electronic payment transactions. Wirecard Group supports firms in accepting electronic payments through all sales channels, providing companies with end-to-end payment infrastructure, including the licenses for card and account products.

Lidl—a subsidiary of Schwarz Gruppe—is a German discount supermarket chain that operates over 10,000 stores across Europe.
