Shawn Hagan, Fifth Third Bank’s first St. Louis employee, has been named the bank’s new regional president and CEO, replacing Thomas Welch, who will become the president and CEO of the bank’s Western Michigan region.
“We are fortunate that in Shawn we have a highly capable and well-seasoned executive who is prepared to lead our St. Louis affiliate bank,” Michelle VanDyke, the president of Fifth Third’s St. Louis region, said. “He has demonstrated deep knowledge and understanding of the market and is a great team-builder. We expect a very smooth transition.”
Hagan was the first commercial relationship manager after the loan production office opened in 2002, and in 2006, he was promoted to the position of senior commercial banker.
“This is a terrific opportunity to further build on the successes and track record of the last eleven years,” Hagan said. “It is extremely gratifying to have the opportunity to lead this organization, having been here from the very start.”
Currently, Hagan serves on the executive board for the Missouri chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he is head of the finance committee, and on the corporate council of the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University and has been named among St. Louis Business Journal’s “40 under 40.”
