180px-Fifth_Third_Bank.svgFifth Third Bancorp announced on Tuesday that Maria Veltre, the managing director and CMO for small business at Citibank, would assume the positions of CMO and senior vice president, effective immediately.

Veltre’s 27 years of experience in the financial services industry has allowed her to hold a number of marketing leadership positions at JPMorgan Chase, GE Capital and Citibank. She previously served as marketing director for Citibank.com and Chase.com.

“Maria’s extensive experience and breadth of knowledge will build on our success and help drive further progress in developing our brand,” Todd Clossin, Veltre’s new boss and Fifth Third’s executive vice president and CAO, said. “She has a proven track record in creating strategies to target untapped opportunities while leading high-performance teams.”

In 1986, Veltre began her career in credit card marketing at the former Chase Manhattan Bank. She received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in business administration with a marketing concentration from New York University.

Veltre will succeed Larry Magnesen, who has held the position of CMO since 2007. Magnesen was recently named the director of corporate communications.

“I’m excited to join Fifth Third Bank at a time of unprecedented change in both marketing media and the banking industry itself,” Veltre said. “Recent innovations at the Bank, a commitment to a customer-centric approach and a strong leadership team all were compelling reasons to join Fifth Third Bank.”
