The Institute for Financial Literacy awarded Discover Financial Services its Excellence in Financial Literacy Award during the Annual Conference on Financial Education in New Orleans this week.
Discover also took home the “Organization of the Year, Corporate Leadership” trophy for its “Pathway to Financial Success” financial education program.
The EIFLE Awards are given in acknowledgment of innovation, dedication and commitment by individuals and organizations to advance financial literacy education.
“Discover is helping bring effective personal finance courses to public high schools throughout the country,” Discover Chairman and CEO David Nelms said. “We are honored to receive the EIFLE Award for Corporate Leadership. Through our Pathway to Financial Success program, we will continue to support our nation’s personal finance teachers as they help young people acquire the financial knowledge and skills they need to prepare for successful futures.”
The five-year, $10 million Pathway to Financial Success Program aims to bring a financial education curriculum into public high schools nationwide. The program, designed to raise awareness of the need for financial education and provide the tools and resources necessary to implement such a program, has awarded more than $5.2 million in financial education grants to public high schools in the U.S.
“While the need for financial literacy has never been greater, the efforts being made in support of this noble cause by this years’ EIFLE winners have been an encouragement to us all,” John Linfield, the executive director of the Institute for Financial Literacy, said. “On behalf of the Institute for Financial Literacy, I would like to congratulate our EIFLE winners for their distinguished accomplishments and service in working to bring successful financial literacy education to the communities they serve.”
