CrewCash Card, a payroll and benefits platform, launched on Thursday to allow crewmen employed by participating shipping and trading firms to receive direct deposit paychecks on a MasterCard branded prepaid debit card.
“MasterCard is constantly looking for new products and solutions that satisfy the specific needs and bring added value to our consumers,” Ignacio Plata, the country manager for MasterCard’s Panama, El Salvador and Nicaragua divisions, said. “This time, we are so glad to work with Cardplatforms in order to benefit crewmen, as well as the companies that will offer this innovative payment program, CrewCash MasterCard card.”
The CrewCash Card program, which is offered by Florida-based Cardplatforms, circumvents traditional payroll distribution at ports of call and enhances the safety and security of funds. Crewmen will be able to access the funds immediately, pay bills and transfer money. The card also comes with ATMSafe insurance, which protects cardholders against loss or injury due to robbery.
The program’s initial participants include Akron Trade & Transport, Lotus Shipping, Leon Shipping & Trading, Kyla Shipping Enterprises Corp., Entrust Shipping and Tsakos Shipping & Trading.
“Our customers are acknowledged leaders in the shipping world,” Yves Yon, the managing partner of Cardplatforms Latin America and program director, said. “We are thrilled to be launching the CrewCash Card to such a distinguished group of companies. These companies are showing that crew welfare is important. Owners recognize the cost of losing trained seamen. Crewmembers will be more efficient with less time spent managing the logistics of their money. Over 100,000 seafarers are currently committed to the CrewCashCard, with a potential 1.5 Million crewmen who could come aboard!”
