Worldpay recently opened its first sales office in China in Shanghai as part of an effort to service Chinese businesses that are increasingly global.
The office will be led by Tang Kok San, Worldpay’s vice president of business development in China, and will offer all of the company’s customer-facing functions.
“The Chinese e-commerce market is growing rapidly and there is huge interest from merchants to pursue international opportunities,” Worldpay Vice Chairman Ron Kalifa said. “However the global e-commerce landscape is complex, so it’s important that businesses seek expert advice from an experienced international payments provider to successfully navigate new territories. Given Worldpay’s global reach and unparalleled number of payment types, we’re the perfect partner to help Chinese customers achieve international success.”
Worldpay has been involved in the Chinese market for years through partnerships with some of China’s largest payment brands, including Alipay and China Union Pay.
“Our immediate goal is to provide Chinese merchants with greater access to international markets,” Kalifa said. “We also look forward to continuing to support our local partners, Alipay and China Union Pay. Importantly, our presence on the ground ensures that we continue to strengthen our market understanding as the Chinese e-commerce landscape rapidly evolves.”
