Igenico announced last week the delivery of its five millionth contactless payment terminal, 10 years after its first terminal received certification from MasterCard.
The company integrated contactless capabilities, which allow consumers to make “tap and go” purchases, in 2009.
Last year, more than 50 percent of delivered terminals were equipped with contactless technology, and Ingenico has since sought to accelerate the deployment of contactless payments across the world.
During the fourth quarter, four out of every five terminals were NFC-enabled and equipped with contactless technology.
Ingenico has more than 20 million terminals in operation across more than 125 countries. It employs 4,500 people worldwide and seeks to simplify, secure and optimize electronic payments for retailers and financial institutions.
