Intel subsidiary McAfee announced on Monday the availability of a full-feature version of McAfee Mobile Security for iOS and Android consumers, available in 30 languages at no cost.
The free version of the security app, launched as part of an Intel Corp. initiative to better integrate security into the customer experience, features enhanced protection features and unlocked security extension for Intel-based mobile devices.
Earlier this year, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show that the company planned to offer elements of McAfee’s security solutions for free on mobile devices.
“We live in an unprecedented era of always-connected devices, where security and privacy protection are fundamental,” John Giamatteo, the senior vice president and general manager of McAfee’s consumer business, said. “With free access to our award-winning mobile security product, consumers are free to experience everything this connected world has to offer, without fear of their personal information being compromised.”
A recent survey conducted by McAfee found consumers are sharing and storing more information than ever, and a report from the company found that malware for Android devices nearly tripled from 2012 to 2013.
The app includes anti-theft and anti-virus features, as well as app protection, Web protection and call and SMS filtering. In AV-Test’s most recent test of the effectiveness of mobile security products, McAfee’s app received a 100 percent detection score and was ranked seventh among the top 30 vendors that participated in the independent test.
McAfee is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel. The company provides security solutions for systems, networks, computers and mobile devices worldwide.
