Ovidio Egido selected to head MasterCard’s expansion, development in Spain

220px-MasterCard_Logo.svgOvidio Egido was recently appointed the country manager for MasterCard Spain, where he will be responsible for MasterCard’s expansion and technological development in the country.

“We are living a key moment at the payments space, not just due to the continuous innovations in technology that the market is facing, but also because of the changes in the consumers habits and the MasterCard partners in the country,” Egido said. “Our efforts will focus in the development and implementation of innovative payment solutions conformed to this new reality. We want to became the technological ally for consumers, retailers and financial entities, and offer them products and services with added value to make come true our vision of a world beyond cash.”

Egido, who has nearly 20 years of experience in payments and finance, joined MasterCard in 2012 as the senior business leader for Spain, where he was responsible for the development of new solutions in mobile, wallet and contactless payments in the country.

Before joining MasterCard Egido was an independent consultant in payment media for firms like Telefonica, 3V Transactional Services and Payment System Europe. He also previously served as the general manager for Spain’s PayZone—one of the largest prepaid networks in Europe—and commercial and marketing director for First Data.
