MasterCard announced on Tuesday that Raja Rajamannar has been named to the position of chief marketing officer, where he will be responsible for the company’s advertising, sponsorships, promotions, research and marketing initiatives.
Rajamannar, who previously served as the executive vice president and chief transformation officer at WellPoint, will take his position on Sept. 9. While at WellPoint, Rajamannar led the company’s transformational agenda and was responsible for managing its $10 billion Medicare Advantage business.
“Raja brings a unique blend of global experience and expertise to MasterCard, and I am pleased to announce his appointment as Chief Marketing Officer,” Gary Flood, the president of global products and solutions at MasterCard, said. “Raja’s extensive background in the payments industry, his proven global marketing expertise, and his rich international experience make him the ideal person to continue to drive our brand’s growth and momentum.”
Before joining WellPoint, Rajamannar served as the chief innovation and marketing officer at Humana. He also served as the head of credit cards for Citi’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
Additionally, Rajamannar holds a patent in the consumer packaged goods industry. He has a master’s degree in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Osmania University, both of which are in India.
