Fifth Third launches Stand Up to Cancer credit card to support cancer research

180px-Fifth_Third_Bank.svg_Fifth Third Bank announced on Tuesday the launch of the Stand Up to Cancer credit card, an initiative aimed at contributions to cancer research and the introduction of new therapies for patients.

Customers can apply for the credit card by visiting the bank’s website or a local branch. A portion of each purchase charged to the card will directly benefit SU2C, and the bank will donate $5 per year for each active credit card.

“We are proud to help more consumers join in the fight against cancer by taking an everyday behavior like swiping your MasterCard and turning it into something quite meaningful,” Julie Joseforsky, the senior vice president and head of bank cards for Fifth Third, said. “We are introducing the Stand Up To Cancer Credit Card following our successful Stand Up To Cancer debit card launch earlier this year and continue to look for innovative ways, such as the Take a Swipe at Cancer promotion, to serve this important cause.”

Fifth Third also said that between Nov. 12 and Dec. 31, it will make a one-cent donation, up to $400,000, to SU2C for every qualifying purchase over $5 made with the bank’s MasterCard cards.

“Cancer kills one American nearly every minute,” Craig Vosburg, the group executive of U.S. market development for MasterCard said. “Fifth Third Stand Up to Cancer credit and debit cards empower all of us to fight back by swiping our cards in grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and everywhere else MasterCard is accepted. It’s a powerful proposition: help end cancer by using these cards to do the things we do every day.”
