American Express expands travel rewards for platinum cardholders

american expressAmerican Express announced on Thursday it plans to expand travel rewards, including unlimited Wi-Fi access and an application fee statement credit option for the TSA Pre-Screen program, for its consumer, business and corporate platinum cardholders.

“American Express is committed to offering a variety of travel benefits and services that further elevate every point of a Card Member’s travel journey,” Gary Portuesi, the vice president of travel innovation at AmEx, said. “With enhanced benefits… American Express Platinum Card Members can save money and enjoy an easier airport experience whether traveling domestically or abroad.”

Beginning in June, platinum cardholders will receive complimentary access to over 700,000 land-based Wi-Fi hotspots in airports, retail stores and hotel locations around the world through the Boingo AmEx Preferred Plan.

Additionally, cardmembers will have the ability to receive a statement credit for a pre-screen application with TSA—an alternative to the previously offered benefit, a $100 credit for a Global Entry application free. Cardholders can receive a statement credit for either the Global Entry or TSA Pre-Screen program once every five years.

TSA’s Pre-Screen program allows low-risk travelers to move through screening faster at participating U.S. airports. The Global Entry program allows individuals traveling internationally to move through U.S. customs faster after travel.
