Online retail sales in Canada rose 22.2 percent in December, accounting for 7.8 percent of all retail sales during the month, according to recent data from the MasterCard SpendingPulse report.
“Canadians are embracing eCommerce, and steady growth is no surprise,” Sarah Quinlan, the senior vice president of market insights for MasterCard Advisors, said. “However, for the first time total online retail sales reached nearly eight percent. An impressive share of spending is happening online and it’s a trend that can’t be ignored. Canadians recognize that electronic payments are a safe, reliable and convenient way to purchase items without leaving home to brave the elements.”
Canadian retail growth has shown steady upward growth, rising 2.3 percent year-over-year.
